Job Details:

This position is primarily responsible for smooth operation of the finance department ensuring that the management of the financial and accounting practices, systems and controls conform to company, applicable statutory requirements and best industry practice.

Principal accountabilities
Financial accounting and management
• Handle the credit control function
• Handle the accounts payables function
• Handle the treasury management function in liaison with the country manager
• Oversee fixed assets management including physical verification and accuracy of asset register
• Ensure correct accounting principles are applied to transactions and recommend revisions in accounting procedures in line with accounting and applicable IFRS standards
• Periodic review and recommend changes in processes, procedures and controls
• Assist with the importation function (as and when required)
Reporting
• Preparation of monthly management accounts and related reports
• Analyze actual expenditure against budgets across all branches and chart of accounts to ensure any discrepancies are queried and resolved
• Oversee preparation of monthly balance sheet and P&L schedules
• Prepare corporate & deferred tax computations including projections of corporate instalment taxes estimates
• Prepare required shareholder and board reports
• Prepare any other reports that may be required
Compliance and Audits
• Review VAT, WHT & WH VAT computations and filing of returns
• Ensure all applicable business licenses and insurance renewals are done within deadlines
• Ensure all statutory and tax payments are remitted within deadlines
• Ensure compliance with covenants given by third parties e.g banks, landlords etc
• Assist in review of legal contracts and leases
• Handle all tax and legal matters including tax and statutory audits as and when they arise
• Oversee interim and final external annual audits including preparation of financial statements and tax computations in accordance with the accounting standards
• Oversee any internal audits within the department including resolution of issues raised
• Periodically review the departmental risk register and quality objectives ensuring they are relevant
• Review the company policies and procedures as and when required and recommend changes
Budgets
• Responsible for preparing annual budgets and forecasts
• Responsible for preparing rolling forecasts as and when required
• Assist in preparing long-term budgets and forecasts
• Assist in group reporting requirements
Stakeholder Management
• Engage with cross departmental staff
• Set performance objectives and undertake half yearly reviews (for any direct reports, if any)
• Maintain relationships and negotiate facilities with bankers of the company
• Maintain relationships with other key stakeholders of the company

Education, Experience and Knowledge
• ACCA/ CPA qualification and/or Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a large multi-location organization
• Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office especially Microsoft excel
• Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
• Knowledge of Rwanda tax laws and regulations
• Working knowledge of SAP S/4 Hana will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of cost accounting will be an added advantage
