Job Summary/Purpose
The Equity Analyst will assist the Manager Equity in growing the Bank's equity investment portfolio by promoting equity investments, analyzing funding proposals, conducting due diligence, and providing strategic advice on equity investment decisions. The role involves mobilizing equity business and ensuring the sustainability and profitability of equity financing within the Bank's portfolio.
Accountability Statement
The Equity Analyst is accountable for promoting equity investment opportunities, conducting appraisals, maintaining a high-quality pipeline, and ensuring compliance with the Bank's Equity Policy. The job holder is responsible for monitoring and reporting on portfolio performance and assisting in strategic initiatives to enhance the Bank's equity investments.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Equity Portfolio Development and Management:
• Support the Bank's business growth objectives by performing due diligence on existing and prospective investees to assess sustainability and commercial viability.
• Structure appropriate equity interventions using a mix of equity instruments to build investee capacity, create value, and ensure profitable exits.
• Maintain and document a robust equity investment pipeline aligned with the Bank's strategic objectives and mandate.
Appraisal and Reporting:
• Prepare and process Expressions of Interest and related reports for the Equity Review Committee (ERC) and Board Equity Investment Committee (BEIC).
• Ensure all documentation complies with the Equity Policy and associated manuals, highlighting any exceptions and compensating controls.
• Assist the Manager Equity in monitoring portfolio performance, grading investments, and recommending remedial actions based on the Equity Policy.
Strategic Support:
• Contribute to the development of the annual business plan, policy reviews, market research, and advice on exit strategies.
• Provide technical advice to management on equity investment decisions and product solutions.
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Act as a representative of the Bank to engage with customers and prospective clients.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business associations, customers, and potential investees.
Level of Authority
• Engage directly with customers and stakeholders on behalf of the Bank.
• Review documents and provide technical advice to management on equity portfolio-related matters.
• Propose inputs for equity investment decisions and product solutions.
Relationships
• Internal: Collaborate with all Bank staff across departments.
• External: Interact with business associations, customers, prospective clients, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:
• A good first or advanced degree in Finance, Business Studies, Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Accounting, or a related field from a reputable institution.
• Preferred: Part or full CFA or similar professional qualification.
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in capital markets, equity investments, or related fields in reputable institutions.
• Solid experience in governance or working closely with Boards of Directors is desirable.
