• Existing network within the RE and/or EE industry and/or any other industry or commercial sector with high energy consumption, is a plus.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
The Energy Advisor will be in charge of;
• Identification of project opportunities, initiation of project development, contact management of German and local project partners as well as knowledge management, all within the field of RE and EE.
• Early-stage project development services for Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Energy Efficiency solutions, including site audits and load measurement of the electric consumption at specific production facilities.
• Collaboration with private as well as public stakeholders.
• Assisting the PDP team in Germany, in the planning, designing, implementing, and monitoring of PDP activities according to the country roadmaps and plan of operation.
The Energy Advisor performs the following tasks:
Specific Tasks
Project Development.
• Compile information on the RE and EE market, the energy legal framework, financing programmes and mechanisms and business opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Uganda.
• Proactively build networks within the industry and identify project opportunities and future project partners with promising ideas and development potential.
• Function as a facilitator for RE and EE project development: Support and advise stakeholders and potential partners in the process of generating, structuring, and formulating project ideas and concepts.
• Conduct engineering site audits to collect and verify structural and electrical data (number of connection points, current supply situation, description of energy mix, energy consumption and load, tariff structure, equipment in use, outages and resulting electricity costs, pattern of operation) as well as other site related information like roof quality and accessibility, availability of roof (orientation and inclination) as well as ground spaces (shading).
• In cases of insufficient load data, management of load measurements or load modeling necessary for further technical and financial simulations.
• Work closely with PDP Country Manager in Germany and third-party consultants, local banks, auditors, and regulatory authorities on, among others designing of solar PV systems and EE solutions and cash-flow modeling in the commercial and industrial sector using selected simulation tools.
• Presentation of results to the client (local off-taker), with the goal to convince the client to opt for the proposed system.
• Support on technical and financial tender evaluation (as well as GIZ procedures), where needed.
Implementation of other project activities
• Implement activities outlined in the existing PDP operational plan and to the satisfaction of PDP and the private partners.
• Assist in activities in line with the PDP collaborations with industry associations.
• Organize, prepare, and implement sector specific information and expert workshops and webinars.
• Identify Uganda-specific tenders in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, which are relevant to German companies.
Coordination.
• Plan, coordinate and document meetings, workshops, seminars, and other project activities.
• Manage and assist short-term experts / consultants assigned to projects/ programmes in completing their tasks (e.g. consultancy for load measurements).
• Support in implementation of business trips organized by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK), where necessary for German renewable energy companies to Uganda.
Communication, knowledge management and monitoring.
• Represent PDP Uganda in regional conferences, workshops, seminars, and relevant events in collaboration with the country manager.
• Coordinating with communications team in the cluster and at HQ, prepare PR contributions, identify appropriate distribution channels in case of significant PDP events, and compile articles for newsletters.
• Update information on project progress, documents and reports regularly on the PDP digital monitoring platform.
• Organise and update programme documentation in the respective data management system.
• Continuously update the PDP Uganda’s contact database.
• Assist with report writing for all project activities undertaken.
• Compile an overview of programme activities, deadlines etc. as discussed in team meetings and present this regularly during the meetings.
Other Duties/Additional Tasks.
• Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree Energy, Engineering, Economics, or related fields
Details of experience
• 5 years of working experience in industry or engineering, preferably in project development, business development, market development, preferably in the energy sector.
• In-depth experience in project development (renewables or other industries) is a prerequisite.
