Job Purpose Statement
To manage the Credit Analysis & approval function within the NCBA Credit function covering Retail, SME, Business Banking and Corporate Banking Customers. This entails the formulation and implementation of robust credit analysis policies and guidelines in liaison with Head of Credit Risk Management and Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking. The role also contributes to the overall portfolio management for the Bank.

Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Financial
• Contribution to overall Business goals through effective management of the Credit analysis team.
• Supervise Credit Analysts to develop high quality credit solutions and recommend appropriate facilities in line with risk evaluation.
• Timely approval of Credit applications up to mandated limit without compromising on quality and controls.
• Timely approval of excesses up to a mandated limit without compromising on quality and controls.
• Oversee the provision and analysis of financial information for use in the preparation of credit reports
• Responsible for the financial evaluation of new business/projects and provision of guidance on market risk.
• Prepare credit reports for new proposals and renewals and provide guidance on structuring of credits, due diligence and KYC so as to ensure that credits meet CBA standards.
• Decline non-viable deals at source, however, works in partnership with Relationship Managers and clients to identify alternatives that could bring deal/ proposals within risk acceptable parameters relative to profitability.
• Proactive monitoring of the credit portfolio to ensure early detection of problem credits.
• Set clear performance standards and expectations; hold the team accountable and take accountability for team delivery against expectations and contribution to results.
• Review of customer profitability for the purposes of credit review
Internal business processes
• Formulation and constant review of the Credit analysis processes and establishment of controls and disciplines that ensures compliance with lending principles and guidelines laid down in the Credit Policy Document
• Review of credit requests including review of financial and credit information provided in respect to the corporate clients
• Maintain financial information on loan accounts including financial covenants, spreads and interim reports
• Proactively drive review process of existing facilities ensuring consistent, thorough and timely evaluation of all existing facilities.
• Regular review of agreed credit terms to ensure that exceptions are dealt with
• Provide input in the formulation and review of the Credit Policy
• Act as the Chairman for the following Credit Committees; New Business Committee, Early alert & Watchlist Committees and other Portfolio Review meetings.
• Monitors compliance with BAFIA and related Prudential Guidelines.
• Ensures compliance with Bank’s Credit policy and procedures ensures that exceptions are properly noted.
• Timely reporting of all incidences including but not limited to actual and suspected fraud or corruption.
• Implementation of change and capability development programmes
Customer
• Work closely with RM in monitoring credit quality of corporate clients within your portfolio by highlighting early warning signs of credit deterioration and advising the turnaround time.
• Provides high level of service to ARMs in terms of accuracy, responsiveness and turnaround time
• Timely evaluation and credit grading of accounts.
• Understanding of risk associated with individual transactions, annual review and raising appropriate concerns
• Work with Auditors both internal and external to ensure timely submission of requested information and appropriate response to queries raised
Learning and growth
• Fully attend all trainings as assigned to you and in line with annual training needs assessment.


Ideal Job Specifications
Academic:
• University degree preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.

Professional:
• CPA (T), ACCA, CFA etc.

Desired work experience:
• Minimum 7 years banking experience with at least 4 years in Corporate Credit Analysis and 3 years’ experience in a management role. Approval experience will be an added advantage.
