Role overview
Working at project location – In this role, you will provide on-site support in the project location and/or VSO office, (full-time unless otherwise specified) for a set period of time.
The Communications and Advocacy Adviser will be responsible for maintaining internal communications strategies for MAKE WAY-VSO Uganda to keep project beneficiaries and partners informed of the MAKE WAY project presence, information, and events. The Adviser will be expected to investigate preferred communications channels and ways for delivering information to different target groups as well as do research and write stories that capture the impact of the project. The ideal candidate will ensure the production of quality communication materials and information’s throughout the project working hand in hand with other volunteers who will be engaged in a similar project.


Ideal Applicant Summary
Essential:
Knowledge/qualifications:

• Relevant bachelor’s degree – communications, public relations, journalism or a similar discipline
• Master’ degree in any of the above related fields will be added advantage.

Experience:
• At least 3 years demonstrable experience in a similar role
• Experience working in a developing country and/or INGO
• Experience in communications for Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) programming is an added advantage.

Skills/Abilities:

• Able to develop clear and realistic plans to deliver agreed objectives within deadlines, involving key individuals in the process.

Allowance

• As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

Accommodation
• VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
